New Delhi: Major career opportunity has arrived for graduate job seekers looking to work in prestigious positions and contribute to the country's largest public sector network, Indian Railways. Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have announced an official recruitment drive under notification CEN number 06/2026 for a total of 3,548 graduate-level posts in Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC-Graduate). This recruitment initiative offers eligible graduates nationwide a solid platform to build careers across commercial services, train operations, accounts, and administration.

Vacancies by post:  According to the official notification, the 3,548 posts are divided across four key categories:

Goods Train Manager: 2,750 posts

Senior Clerk Cum Typist: 371 posts

Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist: 300 posts

Chief Commercial Cum Ticket Supervisor: 127 posts

The largest share belongs to Goods Train Manager with 2,750 posts, playing a vital role in railway freight movement operations.

Pay scale and level details:

The compensation structure across all these posts is set in line with the Seventh Central Pay Commission pay matrix guidelines. For Chief Commercial Cum Ticket Supervisor, the initial basic pay under Pay Level 6 is set at approximately 35,400 rupees per month. For the other three categories, including Goods Train Manager, Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist, and Senior Clerk Cum Typist, the starting basic pay under Pay Level 5 will be approximately 29,200 rupees per month. In addition to this basic pay, Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and other benefits will be provided under railway service rules.

Important dates and application schedule:

Online applications under this recruitment process opened on 8 October 2026. Eligible candidates can submit their forms online until 11:59 PM on 6 November 2026. The final date for paying the examination fee has been set for 8 November 2026. In case of any errors during submission, the application modification window will remain active from 9 November to 18 November 2026. Candidates are advised to apply early to avoid last-minute portal rush.

Educational qualifications and age limit:

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution, or an equivalent recognized qualification. The age limit will be calculated as of 1 January 2027, requiring candidates to be between 18 and 33 years of age. Category-wise relaxations in the upper age limit will be extended to candidates from reserved categories as per government rules.

Selection process and typing test dispensation:

The selection process will be strictly merit-based, comprising a Computer Based Test stage 1 (CBT-1) followed by CBT-2. This will be followed by Document Verification and a medical examination. Scribe facilities and compensatory time will be provided to candidates with benchmark disabilities according to applicable norms.

A unique feature of recruitment notification CEN number 06/2026 is that the Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) has been dispensed with for the posts of Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist and Senior Clerk Cum Typist during the examination phase. However, basic computer knowledge and typing skills remain essential, which will be evaluated after joining the railway service as per official rules.
